ARLINGTON, Texas- Women's Bowling punched their first ever ticket to the NCAA Tournament after claiming the GLVC Tournament Title back on March 22nd.Newman was sent to the Arlington Region as the three seed in the region. The Jets were joined in Arlington by the No. 4 overall seed Louisiana Tech, No. 6 overall seed Wichita State and Bryant University.
The opening match would be against cross town rivals No. 6 Wichita State. The Jets and Shockers would compete in a mega match which is a best of three format. This mega match would start out with a traditional team game where the Jets would fall 983-1079 to start the match down 1-0. The Jets then rallied back to take the 5- baker match, 1,040-1,006 to tie the match up at 1-1. This would force a best of 7 match, where the Jets would take control averaging 239.2 to win the match (4.5-.5) to move on to face the No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech. This win allowed the Jets to stay on the winners side of the bracket, and secured their spot in day two of the tournament.
The Jets would then face the one seed in the region, fourth overall seed, Louisiana Tech on Friday afternoon. The Jets would drop the traditional point to the Bulldogs, 918-987. Newman was not able to bounce back from a 1-0 deficit. In the baker match, the Bulldogs would take the point 1,006-946. Newman fell short to La Tech, 2-0. This loss pushed the Jets to the losers side of the bracket where they would match up with the Shockers for the second time in the tournament, this time with win or go home stakes.
The semifinal match against Wichita State was a closely contested match, with WSU taking the traditional point, 1011-976. This allowed the Shockers to take the 1-0 lead over the Jets. Newman would again rally and fire back at the Shockers in the 5-game baker match. Newman shot 1,085, to the Shockers 1014, to push the match into a best of seven. The momentum would swing the way of the Shockers, where they took game one by just three pins at 197-194. Newman was never able to swing the momentum in their favor, as the Shockers would take the best of seven, 4-0.
This loss would end the Jets run in the NCAA Tournament, just one game shy of the Arlington Regional Championship. Newman would claim third place in their first ever NCAA Regional. The Jets finished their NCAA season with 74 total wins, which ties the program record of NCAA wins in a single season.
