Jets fall on the road to No. 7 Fort Hays State

FORT HAYS, Ks.- The Jets hit the road to face No. 7 Fort Hays State. Newman fell short, 99-57.

How it Happened: 
-Valeriya Lioukina got it started for the Jets on the free throw line, Delainey Wylie would then grab an offensive rebound to make a layup for the Jets with 6:28 left in the first quarter. The Tigers would then go on a 7-0 run to bring the score to 9-3. Wylie broke up the Tiger run with a shot behind the arc. Fort Hays would go on another run to force a Newman timeout with 2:34 left in the first quarter. A tough layup by Lioukina would help the Jets find some rhythm. Points would then go back and forth for the remainder of the quarter with Fort Hays taking the first quarter, 20-11. 
-To open up the second quarter, the Tigers would go on an 8-0 run. The run was broken up with a layup by Amaya Perez, who would score her first points of the game with 5:22 left in the half. Alexis Martin would help the Jets offensively with a six point run of her own. Points by Martin and Lioukina would cut the deficit to 11. The Tigers would continue to extend their lead against the Jets with shots behind the free throw line. Lioukina would continue to lead the Jets in the first half with ten points. The Tigers would stay ahead at the half, 41-26.
-Delainey Wylie would kick things off for the Jets in the 3rd quarter. Talexa Weeter would continue leading the Tigers on the offensive side to extend their lead 57-28 with 6:22 left. Dani Williams would score her first points of the game behind the arc. Fort Hays would then go on another run to extend their lead and force a Newman timeout with 3:52 left in the quarter. After the timeout, Carli Carlson would score a three-pointer and give the Jets some offensive energy. Carlson would then hit another from behind the arc. A three-pointer by Olivia Mortensen would help the Tigers extend their lead, making it 77-37.
-Williams would make a jumper to get it started for the Jets early in the last quarter. The Tigers would then go on a 13-0 run to continue to extend their lead against the Jets. Lioukina would then score for the Jets on the line. The Tigers would continue their offensive surge, making it 95-45 with 3:16 left in the game. Late points by Carlson and Wylie behind the arc could not close the gap with the Tigers. The Tigers would take the game, 99-57. 

Player Notes:
-Valeriya Lioukina recorded a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
-Carli Carlson led the Jets with 14 points 
-Delainey Wylie recorded 10 points and 4 rebounds

Newman Women's Basketball is back on the road Saturday, February 21st in Emporia, Kansas to face the hornets at 1:30 PM.
