EMPORIA Kan.-The Jets hit the road to face the Emporia State Hornets on February 21st in Emporia, Kansas. ESU would take the contest, 71-59.
How it Happened:
-The Hornets kicked off an 8-0 run forcing a Newman timeout with 6:13 left in the first quarter. A slow start for the Jets would bring their first points by
Valeriya Lioukina behind the line to bring the score to 8-2. A tough layup by
Alexis Martin would bring the Jets within two. The Hornets would break up the 6-0 run by the Jets to go on a run of their own and extend their lead, 14-6. Martin would knock down a three from
Paige Craft. Blocks by
Delainey Wylie and
Monica Redondo would end the quarter. Emporia would lead at the end of the first quarter, 14-9.

Carli Carlson would score her first points of the game to get the Jets started in the second quarter. Points would then go back and forth between the teams.
Amaya Perez would score her first points of the game behind the arc to cut the Hornet lead to three.
Monica Redondo would then score a three of her own to cut the lead to one. Scores would continue to go back and forth with strong three-point shooting from both teams. A breakaway layup by
Dani Williams would cut the lead back to two. Emporia State would keep the lead, 33-27.
-Emporia State opened up the third quarter with a 6-0 run to make the score 39-27. Redondo would get it started for the Jets behind the arc with 5:07 left in the quarter. After a timeout by Newman
Paige Craft would score her first points of the game and end a Hornet run.
Three-pointers by Wylie would help the Jets gain momentum. Emporia would remain on top after the third, 51-39.
-Redondo would open it up for the Jets in the fourth quarter on the line. Martin would help the Jets gain energy with a strong driving layup and a three-pointer. The Hornets would continue to dominate with their offense making the score 63-45 with 5:00 minutes remaining in the game. Late points by Lioukina and Martin were not enough to stop the strong Emporia State offense. The Hornets would take the game, 71-59.
