Lioukina leads the Jets to a win over the Bearcats

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Northwest Missouri State University in a Thursday night contest. The Jets would win the game, 57-54.

How it Happened:
-Paige Craft knocked down a jumper to start the action for the Jets. Valeriya Lioukina followed with back-to-back jumpers, pushing the Jets ahead 6-0. Northwest Missouri State would then answer with a three. Alexis Martin would break up the Bearcat run with a layup of her own scoring her first points of the game. Northwest Missouri found their rhythm to build their lead to 13-0. Charlize Williams would make a layup with seven seconds remaining to trim the deficit to 16-12 at the end of the first quarter. 
-Newman opened the second quarter behind the arc with Delainey Wylie. The Bearcats and and the Jets would then trade off scoring runs. Alexis Martin converted inside and Valeriya Lioukina scored on a late layup off a Dani Williams assist, making the score 26-23 heading into halftime.
-Northwest Missouri opened up the third quarter with a 6-0 run to make the score 32-23. The Jets answered with back-to-back three-pointers from Paige Craft and Monica Redondo. Alexis Martin added a pair of free throws to keep Newman within striking distance. Valeriya Lioukina took over down the stretch, scoring in the paint and at the free-throw line. She converted a layup and two clutch free throws in the final minute of the third quarter. The Bearcats would keep the lead with a score of 44-43 at the end of the third quarter. 
-After Northwest Missouri briefly took the lead early in the period, Newman answered with two free throws from Valeriya Lioukina and back-to-back layups from Paige to give the Jets a one point lead. Craft would continue her strong quarter with another bucket inside, and Alexis Martin knocked down a jumper to keep the Jets in front. With under a minute to play, Lioukina converted a layup off a Craft assist to make it 55-52. Northwest trimmed the deficit at the line, but Martin made two clutch free throws with six seconds remaining to seal the three-point victory. Newman would take the win against Northwest Missouri, 57-54. 

Player Notes:
-Valeriya Lioukina would lead the Jets with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
-Paige Craft added 13 points. 
-Delainey Wylie would record 6 blocks.

Newman Women's Basketball will host Missouri Western State University at 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 28th.
