TOPEKA, KS.- The Jets continued their stretch on the road. On day one of the Washburn Tournament, Newman faced Wayne State and Minnesota Crookston. The Jets fell to Wayne State, 9-1, and Minnesota Crookston, 9-2.
Game one vs Wayne State: NU 1, Wayne State 9
- The first run of the game came from Wayne State in the bottom of the first inning, following back-to-back hits. Newman would tie up the game in the top of the fourth, with doubles to Emma Taylor and Malie Noda
- Wayne State scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, off three hits. Five runs to Wayne State in the bottom of the fifth, from three hits, would end the game. The final score would be 1-9, with Wayne State winning in five innings.
Player Notes:
- Lani Dryden had one hit and one stolen base.
- Noda had a double, one stolen base, and an RBI.
- Taylor hit a double, walked once, and had seven putouts.
Game two vs Minnesota Crookston: NU 2, Minnesota Crookston 9.
- The first three runs of the game were scored by Minnesota Crookston. In the top of the first, Hannah Nordby would reach base on a throwing error and would go on to score later on another Crookston error. Crookston would score 2 more runs in the second, off of two hits, and another run in the third from a solo home run, taking their lead out to 6-1.
- In the top of the fourth, Crookston scored two more runs off two hits. In the top of the fifth, the Jets offense secured their second run from a Noda single, which scored Nordby, who got on base after earning a walk. The final score would be 2-9 to Minnesota Crookston.
Player Notes:
- Lani Dryden earned two walks and had one stolen base.
- Taylor, Noda, Lauren McNaught, and AJ Borja all tallied a hit.
- Nordby scored two runs for the Jets.
On Day Two of the Washburn Tournament, the Jets will match up against Rockhurst at 10:00 am.
