Softball drop two on day one of the Midwest Classic

KANSAS CITY, MO.- The Jets continued their stretch on the road. On day one of the Midwest Classic, Newman faced Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth. The Jets fell to Wayne State, 3-10, and lost to Minnesota Duluth, 1-18. 
 
Game one vs Bemidji State: NU 3, Bemidji State 10 

Bemidji State set the tone early, scoring in the first inning. They added another run in the second, as DeGraef singled and later came around to score a run and make it 2–0. The lead was extended in the third with a solo home run. In the fourth, Richards added to the inning with a three-run homer to center, giving Bemidji State an 8–0 lead. Newman responded in the bottom of the fourth. Malie Noda tripled and later stole home, and Audry Rumsey added an RBI groundout to trim the deficit to 8–2. Bemidji State answered right back at the top of the fifth with a two-run homer to left and extended the lead to 10–2. The Jets added another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Emma Taylor, scoring Lauren McNaught, but Bemidji State held firm to secure the 10–3 win. 
 
Game two vs Minnesota Duluth: NU 1, Minnesota Duluth 18 
- Minnesota Duluth got off to a quick start with six runs in the bottom of the first off three singles. The Bulldogs continued their scoring run in the second with three more runs off of back-to-back home runs. Minnesota Duluth would go on to score a total of nine more runs across the third and fourth innings via five hits. In the top of the fifth, the Jets would string together a lead-off double by Noda, a single from AJ Borja, and a fielder's choice to the Bulldog shortstop from Kaila Kaahu, which would score the Jets' sole run of the game. Minnesota Duluth would take the win 1-18.

- McNaught tallied two hits and had a run. 
- Noda had a triple, a double, and a run. 
- Laci Dryden had a hit and a run. 
- Taylor had a hit and an RBI.
- Rumsey had an RBI and pitched four strikeouts. 
- Borja tallied a hit. 
- Kaahu added an RBI. 

 
 
On Day Two of the Midwest Classic, the Jets will match-up against Truman State at 10:00 am and Upper Iowa at 12:30 pm.
