GLVC Announces Postseason Women's Bowling Awards, Newman secures major awards

Jacobson earns Freshman of the Year, Billy Murphy earns Coach of the Year, Jets earns Sportsmanship Team Award, Two Jets earn Honorable Mention

INDIANAPOLIS. Ind. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its 2025-2026 postseason awards for Women's Bowling. Newman's Claire Jacobson was named Freshman of the Year, while the Jets' mentor Billy Murphy was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Maryville sophomore Elizabeth Teuber was selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Player of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.
 
In all, 17 student-athletes earned All-GLVC recognition, while eight were named GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees, and Newman was honored with the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Freshman of the Year: Claire Jacobson, Newman
- Earns Newman's second Freshman of the Year honor.
        - Joins Kassidy Miller who won the award in 2023.
- Third in the conference with a 203.0 Traditional average and fourth with a 202.6 average in Baker play through 1,056 frames.
- Recorded a 49.7 strike percentage, 84.9 fill percentage, 85.9 single-pin spare percentage, and 84.3 makeable-spare percentage as the anchor bowler.
- Helped Newman to 69-30 record and the second seed in the GLVC Tournament.
- Named GLVC Athlete of the Week twice: Oct. 16 and Feb. 19
- Earns nod to All-GLVC First Team for her first career All-Conference honor.

Coach of the Year: Billy Murphy, Newman
- Earns first Coach of the Year honor, and third GLVC major honor for Newman.
    -  Becomes first non-Maryville Coach of the Year since Shannon O'Keefe of McKendree who won the inaugural award in 2020.
- Led Newman to 69-30 record and the second seed in the GLVC Tournament.
- Guided Newman to victories in the Warhawk Classic on Oct. 10-12 and the Wildcat Invite on Feb. 13-15.
- Ranked No. 12 in NCAA RPI and 14th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Poll.
- Mentored Jacobson to Freshman of the Year honor, as well as Paighton Crumley and Ashley Soto Honorable Mention.
 
Newman earned this year's GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while eight student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
