WICHITA-The Jets hosted Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday, March 9th for a doubleheader. The Rangers would take game one, 5-4 and game two, 3-1.
Game one vs Northwestern Oklahoma State: NU 4, NWOSU 5
-Northwestern Oklahoma State struck early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning with a wild pitch and a fielder's choice to take the lead.Â
-Newman responded with three runs across the second and third innings, highlighted by
Lani Dryden bringing in a run with an RBI single that scored
Travia Smith and a RBI double from
Hannah Nordby, to cut the deficit to 4-3.Â
-The Rangers added another run in the fourth when Duran scored on Madden's second RBI fielder's choice. This would extend the Rangers' lead to 5-3. Newman responded in the bottom half of the inning as
Kinley Powell singled, stole third, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Lauren McNaught, cutting the deficit to 5-4. The Jets threatened to add more but were unable to push another run across.
-Northwestern would maintain the lead in the last two innings to take game one, 5-4.
Game two: NU 1, NWOSU 3
-Northwestern Oklahoma State scored first in the opening inning on a single that was delivered to center field. This would give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Kinley Powell would then get the Jets started with a single to left field. Pitching would control the next five innings.
Emma Taylor recorded a single to right field in the fourth inning.Â
-Northwestern Oklahoma State added runs in the seventh inning to extend its lead to a 3-0 advantage heading into the bottom half. Newman mounted a late push in the final inning.
AJ Borja drew a walk and later came around to score when
Travia Smith singled to third base, putting Newman on the board.
Malie Noda and
Aspen Peterson followed with singles to load the bases with two outs. However, Northwestern Oklahoma State pitcher K. Jones escaped when
Kinley Powell grounded out to third base, stranding three runners and securing the 3-1 win for the Rangers.
