KEARNEY, Neb.- The Jets traveled to Kearney, Nebraska to face the Lopers for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18th. The Jets would split and take game one, 11-7. The Lopers would take game two, 2-0.
Game one vs Nebraska Kearney: NU 11, UNK 7
-Newman secured an 11-7 victory over UNK. In the first inning, the Jets capitalized on an error and a wild pitch to score four runs.
Lani Dryden reached first on an error and later scored on a double by
AJ Borja.
Audry Rumsey followed with a three-run homer, bringing
Hannah Nordby and Borja home. The score stood at 4-0 after the first.
-In the third inning, Rumsey hit her second home run, driving in
Kayla Moreno, who pinch ran for Borja.
Emma Taylor scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Malie Noda, and Lan. Dryden doubled to drive in two more runs. Newman extended its lead to 9-3 by the end of the third.
-Borja added to Newman's lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning. The Lopers narrowed the gap with a three-run response, making it 10-6 after four innings.
-In the sixth inning, Lan. Dryden advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Rumsey, concluding Newman's scoring at 11-7. The final inning was scoreless for both teams, resulting in a final score of Newman 11, Nebraska Kearney 7.
Game two: NU 0, UNK 2
-After a scoreless first two innings, a solo home run in the third by the Lopers  gave UNK an initial lead. After three innings, the score stood at 1-0 in favor of Nebraska Kearney.
-The sixth inning saw the Lopers extend their lead as a pinch runner scored on a single by UNK. This brought the score to 2-0 after six innings.
-The Jets created opportunities throughout the game but were unable to capitalize, leaving runners on base in several innings. The final score of game two was Nebraska Kearney 2, Newman 0.
