ALVA, Okla.- The Jets traveled to Alva, Oklahoma. Newman faced Northwestern Oklahoma State for a doubleheader matchup on Tuesday, April 21st. The Jets and the Rangers split the day. The Rangers took game one, 8-3 and the Jets took game two, 5-4.
Game one vs Northwestern Oklahoma State: NU 3, NWOSU 8
-The game remained scoreless for both the Jets and the Rangers until the fourth inning when NWOSU took the lead with two runs, making it 2-0.
-In the fifth inning, Newman responded with three runs.
Laci Dryden scored the first run, aided by an error, and
Audry Rumsey's single drove in two more, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of the Rangers after they scored four runs in their half.
-Northwestern Oklahoma State added two more runs in the sixth inning, including a run scored on a passed ball, extending its lead to 8-3. Newman was unable to score in the final innings, and game one would go to NWOSU, 8-3.Â
Game two: NU 5, NWOSU 4
-In the third inning, Newman opened the scoring.
Malie Noda singled, followed by
Laci Dryden's single advancing Noda. A sacrifice bunt by
Kaila Kaahu moved both runners into scoring position.
Lauren McNaught then delivered a two-run single, scoring Noda and Dryden. Newman led 2-0 at the end of the third inning.
-The fifth inning saw Newman extend its lead.
Kaila Kaahu doubled, and
Lauren McNaught followed with a single.
AJ Borja hit a sacrifice fly, bringing Kaahu home. An error allowed
Audry Rumsey and McNaught to score, adding three runs to the tally. The Jets were up 5-0 after the fifth inning.
-In the bottom of the seventh, the Rangers mounted a comeback, driving in four runs. However, Newman held on to win the game. The final score of game two was 5-4 in favor of the Jets.
