JOPLIN, Mo. — Newman University fell to Missouri Southern State University 4–0 and 6-1 at the Pat Lipira Complex on Friday. The Jets managed eight hits on the day, while the Lions capitalized, recording 18 hits.

Game one vs Missouri Southern State: NU 0, MSSU 4
- Newman faced Missouri Southern and was held scoreless in a 4–0 game. In the second inning, Missouri Southern took the lead with an RBI double, followed by another RBI double, bringing in a second run. This gave MSSU a 2–0 lead after two innings.
- In the third inning, Southern singled to second base, driving in a run, that had advanced to third earlier in the inning. This increased MSSU's lead to 3–0 at the end of three innings.
- The fifth inning saw MSSU's batter reach on a single, steal two bases, and score on an error by the catcher, making the score 4–0 in favor of Missouri Southern.
- Despite a single to center field by Laci Dryden in the third inning, the Jets were unable to generate any runs throughout the game. The final score was Missouri Southern 4, Newman 0.
