PITTSBURG, Kan.- Newman Softball traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas for a doubleheader against No. 2 Pittsburg State. The Gorillas swept the Jets (15-0, 7-3).
Game one vs Pittsburg State: NU 0 , PSU 15
-In the first inning, the Gorillas got on the board first with a two-run homer, followed by a solo shot giving them a 3-0 lead after one inning. In the second inning, Pittsburg State continued its offensive momentum, extending their lead to 6-0 by the end of the second inning.
-The third inning saw a two-run homer from the Gorillas along with additional runs to tally six runs in the inning and a 12-0 advantage. Pittsburg State added three more runs in the fourth inning, fueled by an RBI single and a two-run double by Davis. This increased their lead to 15-0.
-Newman was unable to break through Pittsburg State's defense throughout the game, resulting in a 15-0 final score through five innings in favor of Pittsburg State.
Game two: NU 3, PSU 7
-The Gorillas would score first in the first inning. In the second inning,
Aspen Peterson singled and advanced to third, setting up a bases-loaded situation.
Hannah Nordby walked, bringing Peterson home to tie the game at 1-1.
-The third inning saw Pittsburg St. take the lead again with a two-run homer, extending Pittsburg State's lead to 3-1. Pittsburg St. added another run in the fourth inning making it 4-1. The opponent widened the gap in the fifth inning with a series of singles, increasing their lead to 7-1.
-In the sixth inning, the Jets narrowed the deficit. Peterson and
Kayla Moreno reached base, and
Malie Noda's ground-rule double brought Peterson home.
Kinley Powell's single allowed Moreno to score, reducing the gap to 7-3.
-The game concluded with a scoreless seventh inning for both teams. Pittsburg State secured the series win with a final score of 7-3.
