WICHITA - Newman dropped their match against Rogers State 3-0 on Saturday. The Jets were held to four shots, including one on goal, while RSU finished with 14 shots and seven on frame. Saturday's match was the second of two home games that Men's Soccer has over the first ten games of the season.
How it happened:
The Hillcats generated the first sustained chances of the half, hitting the right woodwork through Louis Bassett at 10:29 and forcing
Guilherme Borges into a save on Alex Fletcher's shot 16 seconds later.
Daiki Okada put the Jets' first shot wide right at 21:26. RSU broke through at 37:52 when Jake Mangan scored off an assist from Mario Lopez Ayuso. The visitors took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Jets pushed after the break with
Vincent Edgell forcing a save from Tristan Miller at 53:28, then added a corner kick, a wide attempt from
Yohsuke Ono and another corner by 58:10 while the score remained 1-0. RSU answered with shots on goal from Gian Filizzola and Jake Mangan that Borges saved, but Mario Lopez Ayuso scored off Filizzola's assist at 68:23 to put the Hillcats ahead 2-0. NU created another corner and
Ailton Fagner Da Silva missed high in the 75th minute. After Borges saved Brandon O'Rourke's shot at 78:11, Matthew Reed scored at 82:04, and the Jets' two late corners were not enough to challenge the 3-0 lead.
