EDMOND, Okla. - Men's Soccer dropped its Wednesday night matchup versus Oklahoma Christian by a score of 3-1. Newman generated seven of their eight shots in the first half, but the Eagles scored all three of its goals after halftime.
How it happened:
The Jets spurred the first run of chances, with
Alonso Fernandez and
Yohsuke Ono missing wide and the Jets earning corner kicks at 3:51, 4:34 and 8:39. The pressure continued as
Jonathan Garcia hit the right woodwork at 11:39 before
Daiki Okada and Ono added shots, while the Eagles' Igor Caballero hit the crossbar at 19:25 and a four-foul stretch followed between 23:40 and 30:59.
Adam Zaid put NU in front 1-0 at 34:41, scoring his first goal of the season, and
Guilherme Borges protected the advantage with saves on two Luis Alvis shots before the Jets reached halftime ahead 1-0.
OC pressed early in the second half, earning a corner kick and taking four shots from 53:24 to 59:20, with Borges saving Luis Alvis' attempt at 55:39. Alvis scored at 59:58 to tie the match at 1-1, and after
Skylur Staley put a Jets shot on goal at 74:51, the Eagles answered with Kenzo Shabazz-Edwards forcing another Borges save at 75:36. Alvis scored again at 78:37 off assists from Luca Winder and Alejandro Gomez to put the Eagles ahead 2-1, and Shabazz-Edwards added another goal at 80:03. NU earned a late corner kick at 86:01, but the Eagles closed out the half and finished with a 3-1 win.
