SEARCY, AR - Newman defeated Harding 2-0 on Saturday. The Jets outshot the Bison 31-5, put 13 shots on goal and recorded the shutout.
How it Happened:
After
Guilherme Borges made a save early in the match, NU moved into the attack with
Vincent Edgell forcing a save,
Gael Gonzalez hitting the left woodwork,1 and
Skylur Staley sending a shot out. The pressure continued through the middle of the first half as the Jets earned  2 corners at and had attempts from
Io Shono,
Ailton Fagner Da Silva, Gonzalez,
Yohsuke Ono and Staley while the match remained scoreless. NU kept creating chances later in the half, including an Ono shot off the left post and three more corner kicks between 31:42 and 37:30. Ono broke through at 44:34 with a 35-yard goal assisted by
Gabriel Sasso and
Higor Werneck, sending the Jets into halftime with a 1-0 lead.Â
Gonzalez put a shot on frame to start off the second half. The Bison created an attempt of their own off that shot but it was cleared away after the save.  The Jets followed with four corner kicks between 55:16 and 59:59. The half tightened through a stretch of fouls and cards, but NU still created the next clear chance when
Daiki Okada hit the left post before Gonzalez forced another save. The Jets made it 2-0 at 76:10 when Staley scored off an assist from Shono, with the ball sent from the left side toward the far post over the goalkeeper. It was Staley's first goal of the season and Shono's first assist of the season. The Bison had shot late saved by Borges, and NU kept pushing late with two corners and three shots in the final minutes to close out the 2-0 win.
