LAWTON, Okla. - Newman defeated Northeastern State 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-15) on Friday. The Jets hit .264 with 37 kills and used a 9-0 run in the third set to help complete the sweep. The .264 mark exceeded their season average of .160 on the season. In game two, Newman defeated Cameron 3-0 on Friday. The Jets totaled 36 kills and eight service aces while holding the Aggies to a .028 hitting percentage.
GAME ONE
How it happened:
NU moved ahead 8-3 in the opening set, getting kills from
Avery Kelley and
Kierny Follmer and an
Alexis Kessler service ace while also benefiting from Northeastern State errors. After NSU got within 10-7, the Jets scored six straight points on
Reese Johnson's serve, a stretch that included two
Priscilla Raschen kills, a Johnson ace and an
Isabella Lamb kill to push the lead to 16-7. The RiverHawks took three straight points after Raschen later made it 17-8, but NU traded sideouts through the middle of the set and moved to 24-15 on kills by Raschen and Lamb. Northeastern State scored the next two points before Raschen, set up by
Madalyn Hoot, finished the set at 25-17.
The Jets moved in front 4-1 early in the second set behind a Kelley service ace and Kelley kill from Hoot, but NSU worked back to tie it 6-6 on a Ceylin Sar kill. After the set was tied 8-8, NU scored five straight points, including four with Hoot serving and blocks involving Lamb, Kelley and
Hannah Tymitz, to build a 13-8 lead. The Jets later led 20-14 after a Tymitz kill from
Charissa Ninan, but Northeastern State cut the gap to 20-18 and then tied the set at 21-21 on an Ashlyn Tag kill. NU went back ahead 24-22 on consecutive bad sets by Avery Dempsey, and after the RiverHawks got within one, an attack error by Brynn Fowler closed the set for the Jets, 25-23.
After Northeastern State scored the opening point of the third set, the Jets rattled off nine straight points to take a 9-1 lead, with Tymitz tying the set before Lamb, Raschen, Johnson and Kelley all contributed during Johnson's service turn. Lamb added another kill,
MaddyLynn Shumway served an ace, and Raschen followed with a kill as NU moved ahead 12-2, then the teams traded points through the middle of the set while the Jets kept the margin at 18-8 after kills from Lamb,
Ashlyn Warburton, Kessler and Raschen. The RiverHawks put together a late three-point stretch to get within 23-14, but a service error gave NU set point and Warburton finished the set with a kill for a 25-15 win. Warburton achieved a season-high hitting percentage of .375 in the match.

How it happened:
After the Aggies scored the first two points, the Jets answered with kills by
Hannah Tymitz,
Avery Kelley and
Priscilla Raschen to move ahead 4-3 before Maria Osorio tied the opening set at 4-4. Raschen's next kill put NU back in front, and
Charissa Ninan followed at the service line as the Jets scored six more points, including two Ninan aces, kills by Raschen and
Kierny Follmer, and two Aggies attack errors for an 11-4 lead. NU kept separation with points from Tymitz, Kelley, Follmer and
Madalyn Hoot to reach 22-12, but the Aggies scored five straight to cut the margin to 22-17. The Jets traded late points from there, reaching set point on an Aggies service error before Tymitz closed the set with a kill for a 25-19 win.
The Aggies created the first separation of the second set, using two Lillian Carollo kills during a stretch that put NU behind 6-2, but Raschen and
Ashlyn Warburton had kills and
Alexis Kessler served an ace as the Jets pulled even at 7-7. After the Aggies moved back ahead 10-8, NU scored the next 10 points, with Hoot serving the final nine as the Jets took an 11-10 lead on an Aggies attack error and stretched it to 18-10 behind a block by Kelley and Tymitz and a Tymitz kill. The Aggies stopped the run and later closed within 22-19, but NU reached set point on Warburton's kill for a 24-20 lead. The Aggies got one point back before a final attack error gave the Jets the set, 25-21.
Set three began tied at 2, when Kelley put NU back in front with a kill, and
MaddyLynn Shumway served six straight points, including two aces and two Raschen kills, to push the lead to 9-2. The Jets were still ahead 17-12 on Follmer's kill, but the Aggies scored the next five points, with Taylor Silva and Caitlyn Cornell contributing kills and Leticia Costa serving an ace, to tie the set at 17-17. The score moved back and forth to 20-20 before NU went up 22-20 on an Aggies attack error and Tymitz's kill, only for the Aggies to tie it again at 22-22. An attack error gave the Jets a 23-22 edge, Raschen's kill made it 24-22, and after Maria Osorio brought the Aggies within one,
Isabella Lamb finished the 25-23 set win off a Kelley assist.
