LAWTON, Okla. - Newman defeated Minot State 3-0 on Saturday. The Jets finished with 44 kills and a .267 hitting percentage while holding the Beavers to 33 kills and a .091 percentage. The hitting percentage of .267 exceeded Newman's season average of .180. In game two, Newman fell to Quincy 3-1 on Saturday, with set scores of 25-23, 14-25, 23-25 and 20-25. The Jets finished with 31 kills and a .028 hitting percentage, while the Hawks totaled 53 kills and hit .141.
GAME ONE
How it happened:
The Jets scored the first four points of the opening set, with
Isabella Lamb putting down two early kills before the Beavers got back within 4-2. Lamb added three more kills as NU built the lead to 14-7, and
MaddyLynn Shumway's service ace helped push the margin to 17-8. Shumway has now recorded at least two service aces in two consecutive games. The Jets moved ahead 20-9 on a Beavers setting error and a block by
Kierny Follmer, then answered a short Beavers push with an
Ashlyn Warburton kill and an
Alexis Kessler ace for a 22-11 lead. The Beavers closed within 23-15 late, but Warburton's fourth kill of the set and a
Hannah Tymitz kill finished the Jets' 25-15 set win.
After the Beavers scored the first point,
Madalyn Hoot's kill started a seven-point Jets run that put NU ahead 7-1, with Lamb adding two kills and
Avery Kelley contributing on two blocks during the stretch. The Jets kept building the margin to 10-2 behind a
MaddyLynn Shumway ace and a block by
Priscilla Raschen and Follmer. Follmer achieved a season-high hitting percentage of .444. The Beavers worked back within 14-11 after a Logan Drennan ace and a Jets setting error, but Lamb answered with a kill and NU stayed in front as Raschen, Tymitz and Follmer added points. After the Beavers closed to 21-17, Warburton's kill started the final push, and the Jets took the last four points to win the set 25-17 on Kelley's closing kill.
The Jets started the third set by taking the first four points, with Kelley opening the scoring on a kill from Hoot before three Beavers attack errors made it 4-0. Hoot recorded 20 set assists, exceeding her season average of 17.83. The Beavers erased the gap with a 5-0 stretch to tie it at 6-6, later moved ahead 8-7, and NU answered by turning an 11-11 tie into a 14-11 lead on Lamb's kill, Hoot's ace, and an Emma Swisher attack error. The Beavers pulled even again at 16-16, and the teams traded points into the late stages until Taya McKinna's kill gave the Beavers a 21-20 edge before a Logan Drennan attack error tied it at 21-21. The Jets took four of the final five points, moving ahead on a McKinna attack error, reaching set point on Lamb's kill and closing the 25-22 set win on Tymitz's kill from Hoot.

How it happened:
The Jets scored the first two points, but the Hawks answered with a three-point stretch to move ahead 5-3 and later used another four-point run to build a 10-5 lead. NU worked back into the set with kills from
Avery Kelley and
Isabella Lamb, including three Lamb kills during a stretch that narrowed QU's lead to 13-12, before the Hawks pushed back to 22-18. From there, the Jets won five straight points on
Reese Johnson's serve, using blocks involving
Priscilla Raschen, Kelley and Lamb along with Hawks errors to move in front 23-22. After QU tied it at 23-23 on Aysem Kocaalp's kill, Raschen put the Jets at set point and
MaddyLynn Shumway served an ace to close a 25-23 opening-set win.
After NU tied the second set at 1-1 on a Hawks service error, QU scored four straight points behind an Erin Matzke block with Selin Turgut and consecutive Aysem Kocaalp service aces to move ahead 5-1. The Jets got back within 10-6 on back-to-back Hawks attack errors and later added kills from
Hannah Tymitz and
Kierny Follmer, but QU continued to answer with kills from Matzke, Turgut, Kocaalp, Olivia Curry and Monika Bíliková while building a 19-12 lead. The Hawks pushed the margin to 23-12 with four straight points, including consecutive Kocaalp kills, before NU took two points on a Kocaalp attack error and a Kelley-Tymitz block. QU closed the set on Kocaalp's kill and a Jets attack error to take it 25-14.
The Jets erased an early 4-1 deficit in the third set, tying it at 4-4 on consecutive Hawks attack errors before going ahead 5-4 with Raschen and Follmer on a block. After service aces helped QU move in front 10-8, NU scored five of the next six points behind kills from Raschen, Follmer and
Ashlyn Warburton, along with Warburton-Follmer block, to take a 13-11 lead. The Hawks answered to go up 16-14, but the Jets came back again with a Tymitz kill, a block by Raschen, Kelley and Lamb, and another Raschen kill during a stretch that put NU ahead 19-17. QU later tied the set at 21-21, and after Tymitz gave the Jets a 23-22 lead, the Hawks closed with the final three points to take the set 25-23.
NU started the fourth set with back-to-back Hawks errors for a 2-0 lead, but QU answered with kills from Aysem Kocaalp and Olivia Curry to pull even at 2-2. After the Hawks moved in front 8-5, Raschen's kill, a QU setting error, and Warburton's kill tied the set at 8-8. The set stayed within a point through 18-18, with the Jets tying it at 15-15 on
MaddyLynn Shumway's ace, 16-16 on Lamb's kill, and 18-18 on a block by Follmer and Warburton. QU went ahead 21-18 on consecutive kills by Erin Matzke and Kocaalp, NU cut it to 21-20 on a Hawks attack error and
Madalyn Hoot's ace, and the Hawks scored the final four points to take the set 25-20.
The Jets achieved a season-high block total of 11.5 in the game, exceeding their season average of 5.21. Additionally, they recorded 71 digs, surpassing their season average of 56.14.
