Jets Look to End Skid Against Blue Tigers

WICHITA
- The Newman men's basketball team will look to put an end to a two-game losing skid when they travel to Jefferson City to battle the Lincoln Blue Tigers. Tip-time for the contest is slated for 5 p.m. inside Lincoln's Jason Gym.

About the Jets...
Newman is 2-4 after the first six games of the season, and have taken on some of the toughest compeition the South Central region has to offer, including the likes of Lone Star Conference foes Southwestern Oklahoma State (W, 91-78), West Texas A&M (L, 83-68), Angelo State (W, 77-69), and No. 11 Tarleton State (L, 83-54), and MIAA rivals Pittsburg State (L, 95-68) and Fort Hays State (L, 84-71).

The Jets are led by Keaton Schultz, a senior guard from Neodesha, Kan., who is averaging 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Will Burdette, a senior transfer forward from the Northeastern Mississippi Junior College, scores 13.2 points and grabs a team-high 4.7 rebounds per game, while Eric Saunders, who has stepped into the point guard position after the injury to Bobby Wesley in the opening game, can be counted on for 11.3 points and five assists per game.

As a team, the Jets have shot a .404 collective field goal percentage

Scouting Lincoln...
The Blue Tigers bring a 1-1 record into Saturday's contest after a 76-68 win over Illinois-Springfield a week ago in Jefferson City. After opening with a 81-77 exhibition win over Avila, Lincoln opened its season with a 76-72 road loss at Central State in Wilberforce, Ohio, then rebounded for the win over UI-Springfield. 

Terrell Williams has emerged as Lincoln's leading scorer this season. The 6-4 junior college transfer guard is averaging a 17.5-point, 10.0 rebound double-double this season. Pierre DeClue, a 5-9 senior guard, and Derek Stokes, a 6-3 freshman guard each average 16 points per game for the Blue Tigers.  Daniel Armah, a 6-5 junior guard/forward combo player is Lincoln's leading rebounder, grabbing 11 boards per game.

Last Time These Two Met...
Six different Jets scored 10-points or more as Newman held off Lincoln for a 95-84 win over the Blue Tigers on Feb. 13, 2010 in Jefferson City, Mo. Keaton Schultz led the way with 17 points, while Jarvis Jackson added 16 points in the win.

The Series....
Newman leads the all-time series with the Blue Tigers with an unblemished 6-0 mark. This will be the first non-conference meeting between the Jets and the Blue Tigers.
