Bronchos Top Jets in Three

WICHITA - The Newman volleyball team dropped its third-straight match and fell to 1-7 on the season with a 3-0 loss to Central Oklahoma Tuesday night in Fugate Gymnasium. Haley Dotson's 16-kill, 12-dig double-double led the Jets in the match.

- Newman comitted four errors to allow Central Oklahoma to jump out to an 8-4 lead in the first set. The Jets used two kills by Karol Marins and Haley Dotson to bring it as close as 15-14 but the Bronchos used six more Newman errors to win the set 25-21.

Gabby Loxterman began the second set with an ace and used two kills by Katelyn Schmidtberger to put the Jets up 5-0. The Bronchos fought back using four Newman errors and three kills by Morgan Roy to take a 17-16 lead. The Jets countered with a pair of Schmidtberger kills and kills by Dotson and Marins to tie the set 22-22, but Central Oklahoma capitalized off two more Newman errors to win the set 25-23.

- Central Oklahoma took advantage of a pair of Alex Richardson kills and three Newman errors to jump out to an 11-5 lead in the third set. The Jets answered with three kills and a service ace by Dotson and four Broncho errors to tie the set 17-17. Kills by Marins and Dotson and a service ace by Chelsea Helena tied the match again, this time at 23-23 but Central Oklahoma claimed the set and match 25-23 off a final Newman error.

Dotson led the Jets with 16 kills followed by Schmidtberger's 13 kills.
Kristen White anchored the Newman defense with 13 digs while Dotson added 12.
- Loxterman set 25 assists and Schmidtberger added another 17 on the night.
Schmidtberger's 13 kill, 17 assist night was her second-straight double-double.
- The two teams provided nearly even stats. UCO hit .268 for the match while Newman hit .237. Both teams committed 14 attack errors. UCO recored 46 assists while Newman finished with 42. Each team finished with 57 digs.

With the loss the Jets fall to 1-7 on the season. They will travel to Austin, Texas to take on Heartland Conference rival St. Edward's Sept. 22 at 7 p.m..
