WICHITA – Newman's lady Jets took on McMurry University's War Hawks today as the Jets first half performance was enough to separate the two teams.
The lady Jets possessed the ball and were in command of the game for the vast majority of the first half, while the War Hawks struggled to make an impact. The Jets outshot the War Hawks in both half's, though the majority of chances came in the first.
To open the scoring for the Jets
Mallory Hurst assisted Serenity Gomez who claimed her third goal of the season. Gomez then followed up her goal with her second of the game, and fourth of the season, as
Mallory Hurst found herself wide right of the goal and crossed the ball into the box for her second assist.
The Jets continued to apply pressure in the attacking third of the field as
Harriet Jakeman's shot was blocked but could only be cleared to Blaire Terry. Terry's shot from outside of the box forced a save from Goal Keeper Chanel Felder, who tipped the ball onto the bar for it only to then find
Megan Hostick who calmly placed the ball into the net.
The Jets still creating chances produced yet one more goal before the break as
Bonnie Charlton played in
Mei-Mei Senthavy whose sliding effort crept in between the goalkeeper and the post.
The Jets and War Hawks were much more closely matched in the second half though neither team really looked like scoring.
The Jets next host Texas Permian Basin at Wilkins Field at noon on Saturday Oct. 27. The game will be the Jets last home game of the season and will feature this year's seniors.
