About the Jets...
The Jets will look for their second-straight victory, and their tenth-consecutive win inside Fugate Gymnasium on Thursday against St. Edward's. Newman finished its seven-game road trip with a record of 4-3. Thursday's game marks the first home game for the Jets since a 66-59 victory over St. Mary's on Jan. 14. On its home floor this season, Newman is averaging 74.9 points per game, and is out-scoring its opposition by 17.6 points per contest. The Jets are led by seniors Satoria Bell (23.3 ppg) and Tasha Cannon (16.6 ppg), who have combined for 11 Heartland Player of the Week honors. Bell averaged 21.7 on Newman's most recent road trip, while Cannon had 7+ rebounds in all seven road games.

Scouting St. Edward's...
The Hilltoppers come into Thursday's game with a record of 4-19, and a 1-8 mark in Heartland Conference play. St. Edward's has lost 13 of its last 14 ball games. The Hilltoppers only victory during that span came in a 113-111 shootout against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Feb. 18. St. Ed's is led by redshirt-freshman Maddie Wheeler. The Cedar Park, Texas native has led the team in scoring 11 times this season, and is the only Hilltopper scoring in double-figures.

Last Time Out...
The Jets snapped its three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 67-54 victory at TAMIU in Laredo, Texas. Alina Voronenko led the Jets with 17 points.

First Half Notes:
-
A Tasha Cannon basket in the opening seconds sparked a 6-1 Jet run, covering the first three minutes of action.
-TAMIU responded with a 9-0 run, ignited by  two Samantha Chacon baskets to give the Dustdevils a 10-6 edge with 15:12 left in the half.
-An Ariella McGhee basket paced a six-point swing to give the Jets an 18-12 lead midway through the first half.
-The Dustdevils battled back, and took a 23-22 lead six minutes later, following an Angie Villanueva three-pointer.
-Another Villanueva three-pointer at the end of the period gave the Dustdevils a 28-24 halftime lead.

Second Half Notes...
-Both teams went back-and-forth in the early stages of the period, until a Satoria Bell lay-up tied the game at 32-32 with 15:28 left in regulation.
-A Celeste Key lay-up at the 9:45 mark gave the Jets a 46-38 advantage.
-Lay-ups by Tasha Cannon and Alina Voronenko pushed the Newman lead to to 58-46 with 4:42 on the clock.
-The Dustdevils trimmed the lead to 58-50 with 3:08 remaining, but the Jets hit seven-of-eight free-throws in the closing minues to secure the 67-54 victory.

Tasha Cannon scored a game-high 27 points to go along with seven boards. As a team, Newman shot 44.2 percent (23-52) from the field, and 74.1 percent (20-27) from the charity-stripe. Both teams grabbed 31 rebounds.

A Peak At the Heartland Conference Tournament...

Newman (7-2 HC), Texas-Permian Basin (7-2 HC), UA-Fort Smith (7-3 HC), and St. Mary's (7-3 HC) have all clinched spots in the Heartland Conference Tournament. No. 5 Texas A&M International (3-7 HC) has two regular-season games, and cannot mathematically catch any of the top four.
