Dustdevils Outlast Jets 70-63

Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - The Dustdevils of Texas A&M International took advantage of an off shooting night for the Jets, downing Newman 70-63 inside Fugate Gymnasium Thursday night.  Alex Ciabattoni led all scorers with 21 points in the loss.

The Jets came out of the gate strong, jumping out to an early 6-2 lead behind a three-pointer from Anna Sonka and an old-fashioned three-point play from Alex Ciabattoni.  Tina Dang put the Dustdevils up 10-8 at the 17:07 mark thanks to a pair of shots from downtown, which put them in the drivers' seat for the rest of the game.  Sheba Goode converted a free throw with seven minutes remaining to bring the score to 19-17 in favor of A&M International.  A layup from Malika Jackson sparked a 7-1 run for the Dustdevils, propelling them to a 10 point lead, their largest of the half.  The teams exchanged three-point plays at the close of the half, and a layup from Ciabattoni brought the Jets into halftime trailing 33-25.

Both teams struggled offensively to start the second half, with the Jets scoring just four points in the opening six minutes.  The Dustdevils took this opportunity to extend their lead, with a free throw shot from Malika Jackson putting them up 13 with 14:41 to play.  Chynna Ramelb drained a three to set off an 8-0 Jet run, which cut the Dustdevils' lead to four with 11 minutes remaining.  Amanda Mangan nailed a three to stop the bleeding, and A&M's defense shut down the Jet rally, limiting them to four points in the next five minutes.  The Jets fought hard in the final minutes, but ultimately never could piece together a rally to overcome the Dustdevils' early lead.

Alex Ciabattoni led all scorers with 21 points and added 10 rebounds to record a double-double on the night.  Chynna Ramelb scored 13 points, including a 7-for-8 effort from the charity stripe.

As a team, the Jets struggled to find their groove on offense, shooting 30.3 percent (20-66) from the floor and 24 percent (6-25) from three-point land.  The Dustdevils outrebounded the Jets 46-44.

Texas A&M International had four scorers reach double digits, with Tina Dang scoring a team-high 17 points behind a 5-for-10 effort from beyond the arc. Malika Jackson added 11 points to go with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 5-9 on the season (0-2 Heartland).  For their next contest they will host the Rattlers of St. Mary's University on Saturday afternoon.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
