Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – A 17-6 run midway through the second half downed the Newman women's basketball team as the Lady Jets fell, 76-66, at St. Edward's on Saturday (Dec. 21) at the Recreation and Convocation Center. NU dropped to 5-7 and 3-4 in the Heartland Conference.
In the first half, SEU pulled out to an eight-point lead, 18-10, at the 10:54 mark on a made jumper. A 9-1 Lady Jet run tied the score at 19-19 with 8:28 left in the half. A three-point play by
Shakira Raynor knotted the score.
The score remained close for the rest of the first half as the Hilltoppers led by only two points, 33-31, after the first 20 minutes.
With the score tied at 39-39 at the 15:03 mark of the second half, SEU went on a 17-6 run to open up a 56-45 lead with 9:42 left in the game.
The Lady Jets cut the deficit to nine points three times, but couldn't get any closer, falling 76-66.
Alexandra Ciabattoni nearly totaled a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. She went 11-of-13 from the field. She added three assists and two steals in 37 minutes.
Shekeira Copeland tallied 15 points and six rebounds. Raynor finished with a game-high six assists.
Maddie Wheeler scored a game-high 28 points as four Hilltoppers totaled double digits in points. Stephanie Dekker had 10 points and a game-high six assists.
The Lady Jets return home for four straight games after the holiday break. NU takes on Oklahoma Panhandle State on Jan. 4 to start the home stretch.
