DALLAS, Texas – After giving UAFS its first loss of the Heartland Conference season, Newman volleyball suffers a 3-0 setback at Dallas Baptist on Saturday (Oct. 11) at the Burg Center. The Lady Jets dropped to 7-10 and 4-6 in the Heartland Conference.
In a close first set, NU fell, 29-27. The Lady Jets had set point four times and couldn't capitalize. With the score tied at 23-23,
Alexis Roecker put down a kill for a 24-23 NU edge. After a service ace tied the score at 24-24,
Shelby Zoglman put NU up 25-24. A DBU kill tied the score at 25-25; however, NU got another set point after a DBU service error. DBU put down another kill for a 26-26 score.
Gaylynn Jones gave the Lady Jets another chance with a kill for a 27-26 advantage. The Patriots ended with a 3-0 run for the 29-26 set win. Back-to-back kills made it 28-27. A Lady Jet attack error added the set at 29-27.
NU started set two with 5-0 run. NU held an 8-4 lead, however, DBU came back to tie the set at 10-10. The Patriots pulled away in the set for a 25-16 win.
DBU continued to roll in set three, going ahead 9-2 early. It was all DBU as the Patriots won 25-13.
Ashley Gonzalez led NU with nine kills and hit .304. Roecker and Jones added eight kills.
Lexi Kuharich had 32 assists, and Roecker totaled a team-high 16 digs.
Krystal Wunderlich put down a match-high 15 kills and hit .361. Tiara Gipson added 12 kills and Sidnee Jo Fitzpatric had 11 kills. Kaycie Bird totaled 45 assists. Tadam Mergener tallied a match-high 23 digs.
The Lady Jets continue their road trip on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla.
