ODESSA, Texas – The Newman men's soccer team scored three first half goals en route to a 3-2 win at Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday (Oct. 18) night at the UTPB Soccer Field. The Jets moved to 8-4-1 on the season and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference.
UTPB scored first, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nathan Cotterell in the 14th minute.
The lead only lasted 2 minutes as Luci Anelli tied the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 16th minute. He hit in a header from the left side of the box on a cross from
Kevin Crafton, who got the assist.
Jamie Barkway scored his first goal of the season to give NU a 2-1 edge. His goal came on a set piece from 25 yards, and he headed home the ball from
Taylor Henry.
Tomaz Rossi put NU in front, 3-1, with a goal in the 38th minute. The Jets led 3-1 at halftime.
In the second half, UTPB scored the only goal. Cotterell scored his second tally of the match, his 10th of the season.
The Jets dominated the play in the first half, totaling eight shots to four from UTPB. Six of the eight shots were on goal. NU also held a 2-0 advantage in first half corner kicks.
Calum Dillon started in goal for NU, allowing the two goals and making four saves.
