Lubbock, Texas – The Newman women's soccer team lost to Heartland Conference leading Lubbock Christian on Monday (Oct. 20) afternoon at the LCU Soccer Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 5-7-1 and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference. The Lady Chaps stayed perfect in the Heartland Conference, going to 5-0 and 10-3 overall.
LCU scored the match-winning goal late in the first half as Claudia Sanchez scored her 10th goal of the season in the 37th minute. The Lady Chaps led 1-0 after the first stanza.
The Lady Chaps added another tally in the second half, scoring on a cross from the left side in the 59th minute. Ashley Ledford scored the second LCU goal for the 2-0 edge.
In a close first half, LCU held a one shot advantage, 6-5. The second half saw the hosts outshot NU, 8-2. The Lady Jets totaled three shots on goal to five from the Lady Chaps. NU finished with nine fouls to only two from LCU.
Of the seven total shots,
Shanae Vasquez led NU with two, including one on goal. Five other Lady Jets tallied shots, including shots on goal from
Olivia Hull and
Jeehye Yi.
Haley Borchers went the full 90 minutes in goal, making three saves and allowing the two goals.
The Lady Jets end the 2014 season with three straight home contests. This Saturday, NU plays rival Oklahoma Christian at 5 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats will be provided.
