Men’s Soccer Clinches Spot in Conference Tournament with 1-0 Win

WICHITA – Kerbson Lubin scored an early second half goal to lift the Newman men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday (Oct. 25) night at Wilkins Field. With the win, the Jets clinched a spot in the Heartland Conference tournament. NU moved to 4-2 in the conference and 10-4-1 overall.

Lubin scored the match-winning goal in the 52nd minute. He received a ball from Lucas Hanson and sent in a shot from his left foot, his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The assist was No. 4 on the season for Hanson.

The Jets held the Eagles scoreless for NU's sixth shutout of the season. Calum Dillon got the shutout win in goal, making two saves.

NU held a slight advantage in shots with 14 to 11 from OC. Five shots were on goal to only two from the Eagles. Lubin totaled five shots with two on goal. Luca Anelli put two shots on goal.

In the conference standings, NU is tied for second with a 4-2 record with Lubbock Christian, St. Mary's and Texas A&M International. St. Edward's leads the conference at 5-0. Since LCU is a transitioning school in the Heartland Conference they are not eligible for postseason play so the four-team tournament is set. The second place teams hold a four game lead on the rest of the eligible conference members.

The Jets look to continue its winning streak on Monday (Oct. 27) against Dallas Baptist at 2:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats will be available.
