WICHITA – The Newman women's soccer team allowed a late goal, falling to Dallas Baptist, 2-1, on Monday afternoon (Oct. 27) at Wilkins Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 5-8-1 and 1-5-1 in the Heartland Conference. DBU moved to 11-3-1 and 5-1 in the conference.
Bianca Torres scored her first goal of the season in the 27th minute as she kicked in a corner kick in the left side off the box.
Harriet Jakeman sent the corner kick in and was credited with the assist.
The score tied at 1-1 after an own goal by the NU defense. A DBU shot went off the post, and a Lady Jet defender accidently kicked the ball in for a 1-1 score in the 36th minute. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first 45 minutes.
DBU scored the match-winning goal in the 83rd minute. The Patriots played a corner kick short to Ashley Cox who dribbled into the box for the goal, her seventh of the season. DBU held on for the 2-1 win.
The Patriots dominated play in the second half, totaling 11 shots to zero from NU. For the contest, DBU held a 18-3 advantage in shots.
Goalkeeper
Haley Borchers made four saves and allowed the two goals, including the tough luck own goal.
The Lady Jets end the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 1) with Senior Day against Rogers State at 5 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
