WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team won its final home non-conference match and fourth straight home match with a 3-1 victory against Bacone College on Tuesday (Oct. 29) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets moved to 12-11 on the season.
NU dominated in the three sets they won. The Lady Jets started with two straight victories, 25-17, 25-16, to gain a 2-0 advantage. In the third set, NU fell by a close 25-23 score. The Lady Jets came back in the four set to win 25-18.
In the first set, NU hit .333, its best hitting percentage of the match. The Lady Jets totaled only one error. NU almost hit .300 in the second set, finishing at .294. The Lady Jets struggled in the third set, hitting only .062 with eight errors and 11 kills. In the fourth, NU bounced back to hit .222 with 16 kills.
Ashley Gonzalez totaled a team-high 12 kills, hitting .267 for the match.
Gaylynn Jones added 11 kills, and hit a match-high .333.
Alexus Litts tallied 21 assists.
Shelby Zoglman totaled a double-double of 19 assists and a team-high 14 digs.
Bacone's Jade Tigilau finished with a match-high 20 kills on 47 attempts, hitting .319 for the match, a team high. After hitting only -.057 in the first set, the Warriors improved to hit .091 in the second set and .146 in the third set. In the final set, Bacone hit .136.
For the match, the Lady Jets hit .210. The Warriors finished hitting .085.
The Lady Jets return to conference action on Thursday (Oct. 30) against St. Mary's at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
