WICHITA – Texas A&M International scored the match-winning golden goal in the eighth minute of overtime to down Newman women's soccer, 1-0, on Saturday (Oct. 4) at Wilkins Field to start the Heartland Conference schedule for both teams. The Lady Jets dropped to 4-4-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
The Dustdevils' Claudia De Lara knocked in a deflected cross on the left side to lift TAMIU to the 1-0 win in the eighth minute of overtime.
NU couldn't take advantage of its opportunities in the match. The Lady Jets held a 12-8 edge in shots, including a 10-2 advantage in the second half.
Harriet Jakeman had an opportunity late in regular but her shot went wide right to keep the match scoreless.
Kayleigh Renfro started in goal for NU, going the full 97:33. She made three saves and allowed the one goal.
The Lady Jets look to get back on track on Monday (Oct. 6) against St. Mary's at 12 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats will be provided.
