WICHITA – On Senior Night, it was a freshman,
Jamie Barkway who gave the Newman men's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime victory over visiting Rogers State on Saturday night (Nov. 1) at Wilkins Field on Senior Night. With the win, the Jets won their fifth straight match, improving to 12-4-1 on the season and 6-2 in the Heartland Conference. The Jets finished second in the Heartland Conference and will be the two seed in the upcoming Heartland Conference Tournament to be hosted by St. Edward's.
Barkway scored the match-winning golden goal in the 104th minute as
Taylor Henry sent in a ball into the box that Barkway knocked in for the 2-1 final score. The goal was Barkway's second on the season.
Both team scored very early for the 1-1 tie. After a RSU penalty in the box,
Luca Anelli was rewarded with a penalty kick that he fired in the back of the net for a 1-0 NU edge in the ninth minute. The lead lasted last than 1 minute as RSU's Danko Kenjic scored on a free kick from 45 yards over the top of goalkeeper
Steven Hamersky.
The two teams finished with identical totals of 10 shots and five shots on goal. Nu held a slight edge in corner kicks at 9-7.
Hamersky started in goal, going the full 103:33 and making four saves. He moved to 7-2-1 on the season.

The Jets finished the regular season at 12-4-1, their best record in NCAA Division II history. NU plays St. Mary's in the Heartland Conference Tournament this weekend at St. Edward's in Austin, Texas.
