Box Score BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Newman volleyball team ended its season with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 26-24) loss at Baker on Thursday (Nov. 6). The Lady Jets dropped to 15-13 on the season and will now prepare for the Heartland Conference Tournament next Friday.
Ashley Gonzalez and
Gaylynn Jones led NU with nine kills, a match high. Jones hit .346 for the match and added six digs.
Shelby Zoglman tallied eight kills, hitting .412.
Alexus Litts had 12 assists, and
Kayla Turner added seven assists.
Anna Burton finished with a match-high 22 digs.
For the match, NU hit .180, totaling 36 kills and 13 errors on 128 attempts. In the first set, the Lady Jets hit .167 with 12 kills and five errors. NU hit .170 in the second set with 14 kills and five errors. In the final set, the Lady Jets hit the best at .212, but only had 10 kills to three errors.
Baker hit .202 for the match, including a .244 hitting percentage in the first set. After hitting only .140 in the second, Baker responded to hit .229 in the third. They totaled 41 kills and 17 errors.
Natalie Minchow tallied nine kills and hit .538. Haleigh Offield hit a match-high .538 with eight kills, and Hannah Bettge also had eight kills. Bettge had a double-double of 31 assists and 15 digs. Sara Slater also hit double digits in digs with 14.
The Lady Jets now prepare for the Heartland Conference Tournament on Nov. 14 in Fort Smith, Ark. NU will be either the No. 3 or 4 seed and will play either St. Edward's or UA Fort Smith at 5 or 7:30 p.m.
