Men's Golf Places Third, Bolton Named All-Heartland

HORSEHOE BAY, Texas – The Newman men's golf team placed third at the Heartland Conference Championships on April 21 & 22 at Summit Rock Golf Club. The Jets finished with a team score of 892 in the three rounds. St. Edward's won the event with a team score of 872 and Dallas Baptist was second with a score of 882. Sophomore James Bolton was named All-Heartland Conference Men's Golf First Team.
 
Bolton led the Jets with a fourth place finish. The sophomore from Bury, England totaled a score of 1-over-par 217. He started with a 1-under-par 71 in the first round and then shot 2-over 74 in the second. He finished the championships with an even-par 72.
 
Joe Molina placed eighth with a score of 223. The sophomore from Houston, Texas fired a team-best round of 2-under-par 70 in his first round. In the second round, he went 6-over-par (78) and finished with a 3-over-par 75 in his final round.
 
Ben Cotton was two shots behind with a 225 and a 14th place finish. He started with a 6-over-par 78, but improved by three strokes in his next two rounds, carding a 3-over-par 75 and an even-par 72 in his last two rounds.
 
Finishing with a score of 227 was Charles Mommaerts. He placed 18th with a first round score of 6-over-par 78. He then shot a 3-over-par round of 75 and finished up in the third round with a score of 2-over-par 74.
 
Logan Woodbridge finished in 29th place. He shot rounds of 80, 79 and 82 for a total score of 241.
 
Bolton was selected All-Heartland Conference First Team for the second straight year after the conclusion of the tournament. He was one of six players to earn first team recognition. Joining him on the first team was Garrett Fey of DBU – the individual medalist, Sam Johnston of Oklahoma Christian, Jose Hernandez and Enrique Livas of St. Edward's and Matt Van Winkle of St. Mary's.
