Men’s Golf Places 11th at DBU Classic

DALLAS – The Newman men's golf team finished 11th at the Dallas Baptist Classic on Monday and Tuesday (April 7-8) at the Golf Club of Dallas. With rounds of 303, 298 and 316, the Jets finished with a team score of 917. Heartland Conference foe St. Edward's won the event with a three-round score of 866.
 
James Bolton led the Jets with a three-round total of 222 and a 31st place finish. In his first round, he shot a 75 then shot the best round of any Jet with a 71 in the second round. He finished the tournament with a 76 in the final round.
 
Ben Cotton placed in 59th with a score of 231. After an opening round 77, Cotton shot a 72 in the second round. In his final round, he was 10-shots worse with an 82.
 
Charles Mommaerts and Joe Molina both shot total scores of 232 to finish one shot behind Cotton. Mommaerts put together rounds of 74, 78 and 80 for his total score, and Molina shot back-to-back 77s in his first two rounds then shot a 78 for a consistent 232 score.
 
Thomas Allen carded a 79 in his first round then hit an 80 in round two. His score of 83 in the third round gave him a three-round total of 242.
 
The Jets go to Fort Smith, Ark. for the Lions Classic on April 13-14 at Hardscrabble Country Club.
