Lubin’s Hat-Trick Lifts NU to 6-2 Win

WICHITA - Playing in his first game of the season, Kerbson Lubin finished with a hat-trick to help the Newman men's soccer team to a 6-2 win over Sterling College on Wednesday (Sept. 10) at Wilkins Field. The six goals are the most scored since going NCAA Division II in 2008. The Jets moved to 2-0-1 on the season.
 
Lucas Hanson started the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute as he knocked in a rebound in the front of the goal. The assist went to Taylor Henry.
 
The Warriors tied the score at 1-1 in the 25th minute with a shot from 25 yards that went off the left post and in.
 
NU added two more goals in the first half to go up 3-1 at halftime. After a foul in the box, Luca Anelli scored on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute for a 2-1 score. Lubin knocked in his first goal in the 42nd minute on a cross from Hanson.
 
The Jets put in the first goal of the second half in the 57th minute. Hanson tallied his second goal on a shot from the left side on a pass from Jamie Barkway. The Jets led 4-1.
 
Sterling College's Raul De Gracia scored his second goal after NU's goalkeeper Calum Dillon mishandled a ball, allowing De Gracia to score and make it 4-2 in the 61st minute.  
 
Lubin put in the final two goals in less than 5 minutes to get the hat-trick. He knocked in a pass from Alan Rojas to the left corner of the goal in the 72nd. He added his third goal on a shot from the right wing to the right side of the goal in the 76th minute.
 
The Jets held a 27-3 shot advantage in the game, including a 17-2 advantage in the first half.
 
NU continues its seven-match homestand to start the season with Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College on Saturday (Sept. 13) at 7 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
