WICHITA – Newman women's soccer scored a second half goal to propel the Lady Jets to 2-1 victory over Washburn on Wednesday (Sept. 17) at Wilkins Field. NU moved to 3-1-1 on the season as they are unbeaten at home so far this season.
 
Maricela Ruvalcaba scored the game-winning goal, her second game-winner of the season, in the 54th minute to put NU up 2-1. Mei-Mei Senthavy assisted on the Ruvalcaba goal.
 
The duo switched roles in the first goal. Senthavy knocked in a through ball from Ruvalcaba to start the scoring in the game. The Lady Jets led 1-0 in the 11th minute.
 
The Ichabods tied the score at 1-1 in the 20th minute on a cross that was headed in at the back post. After the first 45 minutes, the game was still knotted at 1-1.
 
After a close first half with WU leading 4-3 in shots, NU dominated in the second half, holding a 5-0 shots advantage. The Lady Jets tallied eight shots to four from the Ichabods.
 
Kayleigh Renfro got the start in goal, making one save and allowing the one goal. She moved to 3-1-1 on the season.
 
The Lady Jets end their three-match homestand on Friday (Sept. 19) against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. The men's soccer team follows at 7 p.m. against Midwestern State.
