WICHITA – The Newman women's soccer team fell behind 3-0 in the first half and couldn't overcome the deficit, falling 3-2 to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday (Sept. 19) at Wilkins Field. The Lady Jets dropped to 3-2-1 on the season.
The Rangers scored all three goals in the first half. Arlet Polack put NWOSU up 1-0 with a goal in the 10th minute, hitting in a deflected shot from Leidiane Capobianco. The score doubled to 2-0 with a Karyn Bernal tally in the 18th minute. The margin increased to 3-0 on a goal to the bottom right by Capobianco in the 41st minute.
NU got on the board in the 80th minute when
Maricela Ruvalcaba's shot from the edge of the box went to the top left corner for a 3-1 score.
Jasmine Woodruff pulled the Lady Jets to within one, 3-2, with a penalty kick goal in the 85th minute.
NWOSU controlled the first half, holding an 8-5 advantage in shots. The second half was dominated by the Lady Jets as they totaled 11 shots and kept the Rangers from tallying a shot. NU held a 2-0 goal advantage in the second half.
The Lady Jets are back in action on Thursday (Sept. 25) at Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m.
