WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2014 season, falling 2-0 to No. 20 Midwestern State on Friday (Sept. 19) at Wilkins Field. The Jets dropped to 4-1-1 on the season.
MSU's Len Smith scored both of the goals. He tallied the game-winning goal in the 24th minute on a header in from on a cross from Ben Clarvis. His second goal came 15 minutes later in the 39th minute on a shot from the right side to the left far post. Kyle Baccus picked up the assist on the second Smith goal.
In the first half, the Mustangs totaled 10 shots to only two for the Jets. The offense slowed down in the second stanza with MSU getting three shots to one from NU.
Calum Dillon went the full 90 minutes in goal for NU. He made three saves and allowed the two goals.
The Jets end their seven-match homestand to start the season with Barclay College on Monday (Sept. 22) at 7 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
