Men’s Soccer Ends Home Non-Conference Schedule with 4-0 Win

WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team ended its seven-match homestand with a 4-0 win over Barclay College on Monday (Sept. 22) at Wilkins Field. Four different Jets scored in the victory. The Jets went 5-1-1 during the stretch.
 
Luca Anelli got things started with a goal, his fourth of the season, in the 15th minute as he dribbled into the box, cut to the left and hit a shot to the right side of the goal for the 1-0 lead. Gefte Blanc put NU up 2-0 in the 19th minute with a chip shot over the goalkeeper from the top of the box after an excellent ball from Kerbson Lubin, who got the assist. Vitor Okamoto made it 3-0 with a shot from 20-yards out to the near left post in the 24th minute.
 
The Jets led 3-0 after the first 45 minutes. NU held a 7-2 shot advantage in the first half, including five on goal.
 
In the second half, NU added one goal on a John Senseman header on a corner kick from Lucas Hanson in the 63rd minute.
 
NU control possession in the second half, tallying 14 shots and holding the Bears to zero shots. The Jets had three corner kicks to zero from Barclay College. For the game, NU totaled 21 shots to two from Barclay College. Of the 21 shots, 12 were on goal for NU to one on goal for the Bears.
 
Goalkeepers Steven Hamersky and Calum Dillon combined for shutout. Hamersky got the start and went the first 45 minutes, making one save. Dillon played the second 45 minutes and didn't see a shot go his way.
 
The Jets play their first road games of the season later this week. NU travels to Eastern New Mexico State on Thursday (Sept. 25) for a 4 p.m. match in Portales, N.M., and then the Jets go to West Texas A&M on Saturday (Sept. 27) for a 3 p.m. match in Canyon, Texas.
