PORTALES, N.M. – The Newman men's soccer team started its road trip with a 2-1 victory over Eastern New Mexico on Thursday (Sept. 25) at the ENMU Soccer Field. The Jets moved to 6-1-1 on the season.
The Jets started the scoring early in the seventh minute as
Kerbson Lubin put in a diving header on a cross from
Gefte Blanc. It was Lubin's team-high sixth goal of the season.
ENMU knotted the score at 1-1 only sixth minutes later with a goal off a rebound in the 13th minute.
NU scored what would be the match-winning goal late in the first half as
Tomaz Rossi knocked home a rebounded shot by
Vitor Okamoto.
Calum Dillon went the full 90 minutes in goal for NU. He made four saves and allowed the one goal.
The Jets totaled 10 shots, five in each half. ENMU finished with 12 shots – five in the first half and seven in the second half.
NU ends its road trip on Saturday (Sept. 27) with a 3 p.m. match at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. Live stats will be provided for the contest.
