Men’s Soccer Suffers First Road Loss, 2-0, at WTAMU

CANYON, Texas – The Newman men's soccer team suffered its first road loss of the season, falling 2-0 at West Texas A&M on Saturday (Sept. 27). The Jets dropped to 6-2-1 on the season.
 
The Buffs scored their two goals less than 3 minutes apart. WTAMU went up 1-0 in the 37th on a goal from Christian Suthers. He chipped a shot over NU's goalkeeper Steven Hamersky from 15 yards. The Buffs doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 40th minute on a goal from Vitor Cardoso.
 
The Jets got two shots on target in the first half; however, WTAMU's goalkeeper made two saves. Lucas Hanson's strike to the near post was stopped by the Buffs keeper, and Kerbson Lubin had a shot 49 seconds later in the 34th minute.
 
Lubin tallied the only shot on target in the second half for the Jets with his opportunity coming in the 75th minute. NU totaled seven shots in the game, including five in the first half. The Buffs finished with 11 shots.
 
Hamersky went the full 90 minutes in goal, allowing the two goals and making two saves. He dropped to 3-1-1 on the season.
 
The Jets open the Heartland Conference schedule next Saturday (Sept. 4), hosting Texas A&M International at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats will be available for the contest.
