WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team outplayed the No. 6 St. Edward's Hilltoppers for the first half, however, SEU scored two second-half goals to down the Jets, 2-0, on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Wilkins Field. With the loss, the Jets dropped to 6-5-1 on the season. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak by NU.
In the first half, NU totaled six shots to only one from SEU. The Jets had a few opportunities to take a first-half edge; however, NU couldn't take the early advantage.
The second half was the opposite of the first half as the Hilltoppers tallied seven shots to only one shot for the Jets.
After a foul by NU right at the top of the box, SEU's Pablo Covarrubias struck to the top right corner to put the Hilltoppers up, 1-0, in the 59th minute.
The lead doubled to 2-0 in the 70th minute when Ryan Dendlinger knocked in the rebounded shot of Dylan Armstrong.
NU totaled seven shots, including four shots on goal.
Luca Anelli finished with three shots and two shots on goal.
SEU ended with eight shots and four shots on goal.
Calum Dillon went the full 90 minutes in goal, making two saves and allowing two goals.
The Jets look to get back on track on Thursday (Oct. 15) against Lubbock Christian at 5 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats and video will be available.
