Jets Get Back on Track with 3-2 Win Over LCU

WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team got back on track with a 3-2 victory over Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Oct. 15) at Wilkins Field. With the win, the Jets moved to 7-5-1 and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference.
 
NU scored twice in the first 20 minutes to gain an early 2-0 advantage. Luca Anelli scored the first goal as he took the ball down the left side and hit a well-placed strike to the lower left corner in the 14th minute. The lead doubled to 2-0 with a goal by Dallas Fiszel in the 21st minute. Anelli sent in a cross from the left wing and Fiszel knocked it to the top left corner for the goal.
 
The Chaps got on the board with a goal in the 24th minute. Kwame Adu-Wusu beat a defender in the box and hit a shot to lower right corner for the 2-1 score.
 
After the first 45 minutes, NU held a 2-1 advantage. In the first half, the Jets totaled four shots to two from LCU.
 
NU added its final tally early in the second half. Jamie Barkway headed in a cross from Anelli in the 52nd minute to put NU up 3-1.
 
LCU scored less than one minute later for a 3-2 score. Mickey Brunton scored after a cross from Adu-Wusu.
 
For the game, NU held a 9-6 edge in shots, including six on goal to three from LCU.
 
Calum Dillon got the win in goal, going 90 minutes and making one save.
 
The Jets play their final home game of the season on Saturday (Oct. 17) at 12 p.m. against Texas-Permian Basin. The seniors will be recognized after the game. Live stats and video will be available.
