Jets Cruise to 5-1 Win at SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – The Newman men's soccer team pulled away for a 5-1 win at Southern Nazarene on Friday (Oct. 2) at Wes Harmon Field at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex. With the win, the Jets moved to 4-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1 on the road.
 
Pedro Augusto started the scoring in the 12th minute to put NU up 1-0. Dallas Fiszel got the assist.
 
SNU tied the score at 1-1 in the 26th minute with a tally by Freddy DiNang. Dallas Fiszel's brother Tommy Fiszel of SNU picked up the assist.
 
Dominic Nwagwu put in what would be the game winner. After a shot and a save, Nwagwu put in a shot 30 seconds later for the 2-1 edge in the 37th minute. The goal was his team-leading fifth of the season.
 
At the half, the Jets held a 2-1 lead over the Crimson Storm.
 
In the second half, NU added three more goals for the 5-1 victory. John Senseman scored his third goal in two games for a 3-1 advantage in the 74th minute. Two minutes later, Luca Anelli upped the score to 4-1 in the 76th minute. Late in the contest in the 90th minute, Gbonju Odukale put the Jets in front, 5-1, with his first goal of the season.
 
The Jets finished with a 17-11 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. In a physical game, the Jets were called for 24 fouls to nine from SNU.
 
Calum Dillon got the win in goal, going the full 90 minutes. He made two saves and allowed the one goal. Dillon moved to 4-4-1 on the season.
 
NU returns home for five straight contests. The stretch starts on Sunday (Oct. 4) at 1 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico at Wilkins Field. Live stats and video will be available.
