SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Newman men's soccer team fell, 2-0, in its first road Heartland Conference contest of the season at St. Mary's on Thursday (Oct. 22) at Sigma Beta Chi Field. With the loss, NU dropped to 8-6-1 on the season and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference.
NU played a man down for also 80 minutes of the game as
Richard Wincer received a red card in the 11th minute.
It took the Rattlers 11 minutes to capitalize on the advantage as StMU's Patricio Botello Faz scored from 25 yards out after he went by a Jet defender and was left one-on-one with goalkeeper
Calum Dillon. The tally put the Rattlers up, 1-0, in the 22nd minute.
At the half, StMU held the 1-0 advantage. The Rattlers outshot NU, 8-5, in the period.
StMU doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the 70th minute when Victor Luna went along the end line and knocked in a shot off the far post.
For the contest, the Rattlers held an 18-11 advantage in shots, including six on goal. The Jets finished with one shot on goal. Reserve
Dominic Nwagwu had two shots and the one on goal.
Kerbson Lubin and
Pedro Augusto also added two shots each.
Dillon went the full 90 minutes in goal with four saves and the two goals.
