LAREDO, Texas – The Newman women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to erase a 2-0 halftime deficit and win, 3-2, at Texas A&M International on Sunday (Oct. 25) at Dustdevil Field. The Jets moved to 4-8-2 on the season and 1-4-1 in the Heartland Conference.
The Dustdevils went up 2-0 with two goals late in the first half. TAMIU's Daisy Perez scored from 12 yards out in the 37th minute for a 1-0 edge. About 4 minutes later, Kim Garcia put the Dustdevils up 2-0 on a shot from 10 yards.
After the first 45 minutes, the hosts Dustdevils were up 2-0.
In the second half, NU scored three goals in 23 minutes.
Paige Thompson started the scoring as she curled in a corner kick to the far side of the night in the 67th minute.
Quincy Plank scored her first career goal on a shot from 25 yards to the upper left corner to tie the score at 2-2 in the 78th minute.
Emma Stewart got the assist.
Korrie Raney knocked in the game-winning goal for the Jets in the 83rd minute. She tapped in a loose ball from 10 yards out to the left post for her first goal in her career.
Kelsi Langley and
Kayleigh Renfro split time in goal. Langley went 45 minutes and made three saves, but allowed two goals. Renfro played the final 45 minutes and made four saves and didn't allow a goal.
The Jets travel to Rogers State on Thursday (Oct. 29) for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Claremore, Okla. Live stats and video are available.
