DALLAS – The Newman volleyball team fell, 3-1, at Dallas Baptist on Saturday (Oct. 31) at the Burg Center. NU continues to hold the No. 2 spot in the conference with a 10-3 record, while DBU is third at 9-4. The Jets are 21-7 overall.
After falling in the first set, 25-19, NU rallied to win set two, 25-19. However, DBU went on to win the final two sets by the score of 25-17 and 25-15.
The Patriots were strong hitting, finishing at .316. They hit better than .400 in two of the four sets. They started with a 16 kill and one error performance in set one to hit .405. DBU hit .371 with 16 kills and three errors in the third set for .371. In the final set, the Patriots were at their best with 18 kills and one error for a .459 hitting percentage.
NU finished hitting .204. In the second set, the Jets went off for 15 kills and a .273 hitting percentage. They hit .184, .175 and .175 in the first, third and fourth set, respectively.
Ashley Gonzalez totaled 21 kills and hit .500.
Emily Harvey went off for 17 kills and hit .517.
Alexus Litts tallied a double-double of 44 assists and 16 digs, both team highs.
Anna Burton and
Kayla Turner each added 14 digs.
Brooke Manley had a team-high 14 kills for DBU. Lauren Nicks registered a match-high 33 digs.
The Jets return home for their final three home contests. NU takes on West Texas A&M on Friday (Nov. 6) at 7 p.m. The Jets play Oklahoma Christian and Eastern New Mexico on Saturday (Nov. 7) at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
