GOODWELL, Okla. – The Newman volleyball team extended its winning streak to 13-straight matches with a 3-0 victory at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday (Oct. 8) at Oscar Williams Field House. With the win, NU moved to 15-4 and 7-1 in the Heartland Conference.
The Jets cruised to 25-18, 25-9 and 25-16 wins.
In the first set, NU hit .182 with 12 kills and six errors to get the set victory. The Aggies finished at .133 with only seven kills and three errors.
The Jets had their best performance in the second set, hitting .355 with 14 kills and three errors on 31 attempts. OPSU struggled to hit -.091 with three kills and six errors.
Although NU hit only .107 with eight kills in the final set, NU was victorious by a 25-16 score. They totaled five errors on 28 attempts. The Aggies finished with a -.054 hitting percentage in the last set with seven kills and nine errors.
For the match, the Jets finished with a .217 hitting percentage and 34 errors and 14 errors on 92 attempts. The Aggies tallied a -.010 hitting percentage with 17 kills and 18 errors on 100 attempts.
Eleven aces helped the Jets. The Aggies totaled only three aces.
Ashley Gonzalez ended with a match-best 11 kills and .364 hitting percentage.
Gaylynn Jones totaled seven kills and a match-high 14 digs.
Anna Burton also finished with 14 digs.
Alexus Litts tallied 24 assists also a match high.
NU finished the first half of the Heartland Conference slate with a 7-1 record. UAFS is one win up on the Jets after the first half at 8-0. The two teams meet in one week on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Fugate Gymnasium.
The Jets are back in action tomorrow (Oct. 9) at 4 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M.
