Wichita, Kan. – The Newman men's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 98-89 win over Pittsburg State. The Jets got a big win tonight over a very good MIAA opponent that plays aggressive and never quits.
The Jets held a 47-34 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. In the second half, Pittsburg State outscored Newman 55-51 but ultimately Newman won 98-89.
All five starters were once again in double figures. Senior
James Pegues led the way with 24 points going a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. He shot 7-of-8 from the field and grabbed 6 rebounds as well for the Jets. Junior
Jarvis Williams tallied up 18 points for the Jets and dished out 4 assists on the night. Senior
Jalen Love put up 17 points for Newman while going a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line and giving out 4 assists. Senior
Cortrael Colbert contributed 15 points for the team and had 4 assists the same as Love and Williams. Senior
Gavin Thurman posted 11 points and paved the way with 9 rebounds, missing a double-double by 1 rebound.
Junior
Daniel Nwosu provided some key minutes off the bench by scoring 8 points for the Jets, going 2-of-4 from 3 point. Junior
Andrew Berry also stepped in and provided a spark on the defensive end by grabbing a total of 5 rebounds. Others to see action tonight and helping the Jets out were Senior

Newman shot 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the field. The Jets were a hot 11-of-20 (55%) from behind the arc and also went 33-of-39 (84.6%) from the free throw line as a team. The Jets committed only 11 turnovers and forced Pittsburg State into 15.
Pittsburg State shot 35-of-72 (48.6%) from the field. The Gorillas only went 5-of-20 from behind the arc and also went 14-of-28 (50%) from the free throw line as a team. Lamine Dieng had a double-double for the Gorillas by having 19 points and 13 rebounds on the night.
The Jets are back in action against Fort Hays State at 7:30 p.m. in Hays, Kan. on Tuesday, November 24
