Early Runs Too Much as Jets Fall at UTPB

ODESSA, Texas – Texas-Permian Basin scored six runs in the first two innings to pull out to a 6-4 win over the Newman baseball team on Monday (March 23) in the series finale of a three-game series. The Jets won the series, 2-1, and moved to 11-12 on the season.
 
In the first inning, the Falcons took a 4-0 lead. A single and then an error by NU allowed the first two runs to score for a 2-0 edge. A double down the line made it 4-0 for UTPB.
 
The second inning scoring started when the Falcons stole home for a 5-0 advantage. They upped the lead to 6-0 with another NU error. The Jets totaled three errors in the game.
 
NU slowly got back into the game, scoring one run in each the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Daniel Jahnke hit an RBI double to left field to score Aaron Mack. The freshman combo made it 6-1. In the sixth inning, Andrew Standish singled to center to score Jarrod Flax. The Jets added their third run in the seventh inning on an error by UTPB, the Falcons only error of the game. A ground out by Mack in the eighth with the bases loaded plated one run for the 6-4 score.
 
Cody Fredericksen started on the mound, going 5 innings and allowing four earned runs on 10 hits. He had four strikeouts. David Herrera went the final 3 innings and got three strikeouts with two hits.
 
The Jets totaled six hits. Tyler Evans, Tyler Bugner, Standish, Garett Thomas, Alex Lator and Jahnke all finished with one hit each.
 
NU returns home for one game tomorrow (March 24) at 6 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma State at McCarthy Field. Live stats will be available.
